Founded in August 1980 and Chartered in April 1982 as the political arm of the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce, Hispanics in Politics (HIP), Nevada’s oldest Latino political organization, has been factored into the pollical landscape in Southern Nevada as the high profile, go-to 501 (c) (4) organization.  From our inception, HIP has sponsored and participated in Latino town halls, voter registration and GOTV drives, political forums, political academies, Meet the Candidates events, education advocacy, and media interviews representing Latino community points of view.

In March of 1995, HIP initiated HIP Monthly Meetings to introduce elected and appointed officials, business, community, education leaders, and candidates for elected office to address our membership, friends, and community. These HIP Monthly Meetings continue to this date – after 28 years!  They have become so popular that, aside from the myriad local, county, and state leaders who have graced our meetings, HIP has been sought out to host many national figures running for the Presidency of our nation, such as Governors Bill Richardson and Martin O’Malley, US Senators Kamala Harris and Cory Booker, and Congressmen Ron Paul and Joaquin Castro.

Due to HIP’s positive image and influence within the community, many Latinos, not necessarily members of HIP, began to be named to boards and commissions, particularly in Southern Nevada. The Taxicab Authority, the Public Service Commission, the Committee to Create the City of Las Vegas Wards 5 & 6, the Committee to Establish the Citizens Review Board and myriad governmental entities began naming Hispanics to their respective boards.

Hispanics In Politics is proud of our 40 + years of service to our Nevada community. Our commitment to voter rights, free elections, equal opportunity, equal access, women’s rights, and equal representation and diversity in all aspects of society will not waiver. Our advocacy toward continued political empowerment of our Latino community will continue for the next 40 + years.
